Uranium mine, worked in 1957.
The Sleisbeck mine is 40 kilometres by rough track south-east of Coronation Hill in the upper Katherine River valley, but all references found cite it as part of the South Alligator mineral field. It was mined by North Australian Uranium NL, and the ore was trucked to Rum Jungle to be processed.
It produced 600 tonnes at 0.4% U3O8. The bulk of the ore was found in a quartz-hematite breccia, regarded as a silicified dolomitic rock, and the deposit was associated with minor phosphate rocks. Another reference states the ore was pitchblende found in chlorite schist of the Kapalga Formation.
A 1990 inspection found an open pit 100 x 30 metres and three dump areas. The pit was flooded, but with exposed uranium mineralisation on the eastern side of the pit. The dumps were 100 metres west of the pit consisting of overburden and low grade uranium ore covering an area 20 x 80 metres and only 0.5 metres high. Literature indicates the mine site has been completely rehabilitated and nothing remains.
