A former W mine located in the N½ sec. 35, T23S, R30E, MDM, 4.0 km (2.5 miles) W of California Hot Springs, along Deer reek, on private land. Production years were 1938-1941, 1943-1945, 1954-1955, & 1955-1957. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in quartzite, hornfels, schist, marble and limestone. The ore body strikes N15E, dips 75-80 NW at a thickness of 12.19 meters, a width of 6.1 meters and a length of 60.96 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included a shear zone. A pendant of quartzite, hornfels, schist, and marble is surrounded by granodiorite. This deposit is unique for the occurrence of well-formed scheelite crystals found underground. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 2 open cuts, with the larger one about 100 feet by 20 feet by 20 feet. There is a 150 foot adit beneath the open cut and several shallow shafts all along the SE margin of the pendant. A 140 foot adit with appended workings and raised to an upper level was driven along the eastern margin. Additional work was done by the National Tungsten Corporation during 1955-1957 on a small tactite body.
Analytical data rsults: Mill heads were reported to average 0.66% WO3.
The grade of the reserves is stated to range from 0.25 to 2.25% WO3.
