A Mn occurrence located in the SW¼ sec. 20, T3S, R8E, HM, 6.4 km (4.0 miles) ENE of Shannon Butte and 9.8 km (6.1 miles) SSE of Ruth, near the crest of the ridge between Armstrong Creek and Van Horn Creek, tributaries of the Mad River, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in chert. The ore body is 0.61 meters thick. Manganese ore bed averages 2 feet in thickness, Strikes N5W and dips 45E. It is faulted off to the N 140 feet NNW. A badly faulted and folded siliceous manganese oxide ore bed is exposed, striking about N20W, and dipping 55NE. The ore is complex carbonate neotocite material, only slightly oxidized. The ore shows evidence of hydrothermal alteration and is cut by thin rhodochrosite veins. Some pyrite and chrysocolla or malachite are present. Local rocks include Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Workings include unspecified underground openings.
Analytical data results: The ore grade is 35 to 45% Mn and 20 to 30% silica.
