A former Cr-Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 9, T20N, R10E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) SSW of Fir Cap (summit) (coordinates of record), along Saddleback Road, E of Goodyears Creek (about 6 miles above Downieville), on National Forest land. Operated by C. L. Best, Ruby-Oxford Mines (1943- ). Owned/operated by White Bear Associates, Downieville, California 95936 (1981). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Located on the boundary line between secs. 9 &16.
The ore body is lenticular in form, strikes N and dips 40E at a width of 2.44 meters and a length of 6.1 meters and a depth-to-bottom of 7.92 meters. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Production data are found in: Rynearson, Garn Arthur (1953).
Total production was approximately 329 long tons (1918-1943).
Analytical data results: Ore contained 41.41% Cr203 with a Cr:Fe of 1.86:1.
