A former placer Hg occurrence/mine located in the NE¼SE¼SW¼ sec. 5, T8S, R2E, and in the center SE¼ sec. 2, T9S, R1E, MDM, 0.6 km (0.3 mile) SW of New Almaden, along Deep Gulch and Almaden Canyon (Alimitos Creek), on county owned land (Almaden Quicksilver County Park). Discovered accidentally by H.F. Austin. Produced during the period 1945 to 1947. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. The USGS MRDS database links 2 separate but nearby localities.
Mineralization is hosted in gravel. The ore body is 6.1 meters thick and was derived from the Deep Gulch drainage area. Controls for ore emplacement included abrupt changes in stream gradient. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits and/or rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Workings include unspecified surface openings.
