A former lode Au-Fe-Cu occurrence/mine located in sec. 33, T3N, R1E, SBM, about 5.6 km NNW of Big Bear City, N of Bellville (site) and Caribou Canyon, on National Forest land. Discovered in 1955. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10035823 presents MRDS file #10141001 as a related file for this locality; however, a review of that file revealed that it has absolutely nothing to do with this locality.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in quartz monzonite. The ore body strikes N60W and dips 70-75SW at a thickness of 0.3 meter. Controls for ore emplacement included a fault. Multiple veins occur. One is 3 to 12 inches (7.5 to 30 cm) thick, traced NW from the mine portal for 100 feet, where it frays (horsetails) into smaller veins that bend in a more northerly direction. Slickensides and thin gouge zones occur in the vein walls. Local alteration includes abundant pyrite and traces of chalcopyrite that form thin coatings in recemented fractures in Quartz. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

Workings include underground openings. By May, 1957, an adit was driven to 75 feet in length, averaging 5 feet in width and 6 to 8 feet high. 15 feet in from the portal a 6 by 5 foot winze was sunk to a depth of 15 feet below adit level. Development continued through 1958.

Production data are found in: Richmond, J.F. and Gray, C.H., Jr. (1960).

No other production record was found.

Analytical data results: The best assays were obtained as free-milling Au from vuggy portions of the vein where quartz was stained by limonite. Assays made by E. Eisenhaver, Los Angeles, showed values of $202, $532, and $350 (period values) Au/ton. Depths across the width of the vein were 1 foot, 10 feet and 15 feet, respectively.
