A former Mn mine located in the NW¼ sec. 13, T3N, R25E, MDM, 7.7 km (4.8 miles) SSE of Willow Springs, SSW of Little Mormon Meadow (2 miles N of Conway Summit [gap]), on Bureau of Land Management administered land. Discovered in 1939. Property consisted of 6 claims. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in andesite. The ore body strikes N50W and dips 63E at a thickness of 10 meters, with a depth-to-top of 5 meters, width of 2.5 meters and a length of 58 meters. It is an irregularly shaped, shear zone with breccia fill deposit. The primary mode of origin was oxidation, and a secondary mode of residual concentration. Primary ore control is fracturing and secondary is faulting. There is no wallrock alteration. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range) .
The deposit consists of a brecciated fissure zone in Tertiary volcanics in which the interstices are filled with manganese oxide, much of it hard and botryoidal like psilomelane. Assay (after washing) gave 38.52% Mn. Porphyritic volcanic rock is a biotite andesite porphyry.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a series of cuts and shafts over a length of 200 feet.
Production information: 1-149 tons.
