Zeolites are present in the vesicular Miocene basalt flows and breccia that make up a volcanic neck at Yaquina Head near Agate Beach (both the town and rest area) in Lincoln County, Oregon. The upper quarry (now a parking lot and interpretive center) is composed of massive fine-grained columnar basalt once used for rip rap. Very few zeolites were found in this rock with one very notable exception, a single 100 pound boulder found in 1975 that produced all the "fish egg" or hemispheres of erionite-K, large clinoptilolite-Na crystals, chabazite, and phillipsite-Na. The lower quarry is composed of several highly vesicular flows and breccia with an abundance of smaller minerals and bars of pyrite. The lower quarry has been opened to the sea and converted into tidal pools. The area has been declared an Outstanding Natural Area and is administrated by the Bureau of Land Management. A fee of $7.00 is charged per car to view the light house and tidal pools but no mineral collecting is allowed.
