A former W mine located in sec. 31, T8S, R33E, MDM, 4.5 km (2.8 miles) N of Piper Peak, along the South Fork Shannon Canyon, in the Sierra Nevada (10½ miles S of Bishop), on National Forest land. Operated during the period 1943-1945. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in granite, limestone, marble and hornfels. The ore body strikes NW and dips vertically with a depth-to-bottom of 51.82 meters, a width of 6.1 meters and a length of 45.72 meters. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 51.82 meters, and comprised of several adits totaling 200 feet in length, a 65 foot incline with a 35 foot vertical winze, a 50 foot shaft inclined at 80 degrees, and several raises. High water table stopped exploration 80 feet below adit level.
