A former W mine located in the SE¼ sec. 34 and sec. 35, T6S, R31E (MDM), 9.1 km (5.6 miles) WNW of West Bishop, 5.3 km (3.3 miles) SSE of Round Valley, on the northern tip of the Tungsten Hills, on private land (locasted claim). Discovered in 1917. Operated during the periods 1917-1918, 1928-1931, and 1942-1944. Owned & operated by James B. Bennett - Round Valley Tung (Tungsten ?), California (1972). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in quartzite, granite, schist, and limestone/marble. The ore body strikes N and dips 23-69W at a thickness of 60 meters, a width of 30 meters and a length of 245 meters. There are 3 ore bodies. Ore body No. 1 is an irregular replacement deposit. Ore body No. 2 is disseminated. Ore body No. 3 is a fissure vein. The primary mode of origin was contact metasomatism and the secondary mode was metamorphism. The primary ore control was a contact zone and the secondary control was lithology. There is slight wallrock alteration. This deposit occurs in the largest pendant of meta-sedimentary rocks in the Tungsten Hills. The pendant is elongated 4,000 feet in an E-W direction and has a maximum breath of 600 to 1,150 feet. Beds within the pendant strike N and dip 23-69W. The rocks consist of marble, schist and quartzite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Local structures include faults.
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 19.2 meters and are comprised of a large glory hole, and an inclined shaft 75 feet on incline (63 feet vertical depth). A drift at the bottom of the shaft extends 200 feet. An inclined winze is 60 feet deep. 100 feet E is another adit and glory hole. 400 feet E are 3 short adits and a large underground stope.
Production statistics: Year: 1945 (period = 1945): WO3 - 1 weight percent (accurate).
Considered to be the best prospect in the area for more ore at depth.
