A former Au mine located in sec. 36, T13S, R37E, MDM, about 8.3 km NE of Keynot Peak, along the N side of McElvoy canyon near its mouth, on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Inyo Mountains Wilderness). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. This mine was possibly incorporated into later development under different name(s). UTM estimated - location estimated from description in the reference. There are no mine-related symbols on the topo map for this locality.
NOTE: Following note in MRDS file: "2 MI S BAD WATER SPI LAURA MINE ON RIDGE S. OF MCAVOY CANYON. N. OF CANYON, NUMBER OF OLD MINES." Too cryptic to decipher with any degree of certainty - where thought elements end and a new one begins. The canyon is the McElvoy, not the AcAvoy.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with pockety quartz. Deposits N of the canyon are also pockety in character. The ore body is bunchy. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
