A B-borate occurrence/mine located 4.8 km (3.0 miles) WNW of Ryan in Furnace Creek Wash (NORTHWEST OF HILL 2562), on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness). Owned by Tenneco Mining Inc. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a Miocene borate deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code 260; USGS model code 35b.3; deposit model name: lacustrine borates), hosted in rocks of the Furnace Creek Formation (conglomerate, clay, mud, mudstone). The ore body strikes NW and dips 45NE at a thickness of 30.48 meters, width of 365.76 meters and a length of 274.32 meters, and a depth-to-top of 45.72 meters. The deposit is on the NE limb of an anticline. The deposit does not crop out. It is 1,200 feet wide from 150 feet to 800 feet below the ground surface and it is 900 feet long down dip. Thicvkness of the deposit ranges from 0 to 100 feet (50-60 feet average). Associated rocks include Miocene basalt. Local rocks include Precambrian rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Death Valley) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Geologic structures include a NW-trending anticline.
Workings include unspecified underground openings.
