A former Cu mine located in sec. 22, T14S, R40E, MDM, 2.1 km (1.3 miles) NW of Ubehebe Peak (coordinates of record), on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
NOTE: The USGS MRDS database file #10212369 presents a T&R value of sec. 22, T14S, R40E, MDM, for this locality; however MRDS file #10076602 presents a T&R value of sec. 15, T15S, R40E, MDM. The former T&R value places this locality in the vicinity of a jeep trail/mine access road, with corresponding geographic coordinates, placing it on a prospect symbol cluster; whereas, the T&R value presented in file #10076602 places it in an area with no indications of mining activity.
At the northern end of Ubehebe Mountain were the older claims on which work had just recently resumed. The Sanger Group controlled by John Salsberry, consisted of the Tip Top; Star, at the base of Ubehebe Mountain; Copper King one mile west of the Star and owned by W. A. Sanger of Big Pine; Prince Group four claims also owned by Sanger & Son; Bluejay, on the east side of Saline Valley and owned by A. Mairs of Independence (its only recorded production was in 1915 when Mairs shipped copper and silver ore); Red Bird owned by F. A. Mears of Big Pine; and the Good Luck Group owned by R. Lockhardt & Penrod of Rhyolite.
M.S.&W. Inc., of Bishop located Jarosite lode mining group of 111 claims on west slope of peak in late 1960s or early 1970s. Samples taken reportedly showed high copper and molybdenum values. It was intended to diamond drill the property. Greene, 1981
