This locality is one of Ontario's most famous mineral localities and was internationally known in the nineteenth century. The locality was leased in the 1990s, but the lessee dies in the early 2000s and the locality is now closed. It was known for its giant crystallization and no other produced such remarkable specimens. Past whopper minerals found: 700 pound apatite,
Zircon 1 foot in diameter, Titanite over a foot long, 40+ lb. titanites.

Apatite was first mined on Turners island, Lake Clear, Sebastopol township, in 1879, and up to the year 1882 about 200 tons had been produced.
In 1943 one of the old workings was reopened in a search for rare-element minerals.
