A former Mn-baryte-Fe-fluorspar occurrence/mine located in the NE¼W½ sec. 23, T9S, R19E, SBM, 9.1 km (5.6 miles) WSW of Thumb Peak (coordinates of record), on private land (private lease). Discovered in 1952. First produced in 1954. Owned by Wardlow, Morris and Shirley (100%), California (1976). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
The ore body strikes N40W and dips 60S at a thickness of 2 meters, depth-to-top of 5 meters, width of 15 meters and a length of 150 meters. Ore body No. 1 is breccia fill & tabular while ore body No. 2 is irregular in a shear zone. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity and the secondary mode was oxidation. Primary ore control was faulting and the secondary control was fracturing. Wallrock alteration is moderate (bleaching, carbonitization and propylitic). Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 7 (Southern Mojave Desert).
