A former W mine located in the E½ (estimated) sec. 3, T12S, R26E, MDM, 1.8 km (5,800 feet) NNW of Balch Camp, along Dinkey Creek (SW slope of Patterson Mountain, 2 miles from the mouth of Dinkey Creek), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in marble embedded in granodiorite. The ore body strikes N40W and dips 50E. Tactite and marble are exposed for 150 by 60 feet in granodiorite, cut by a granodiorite-pegmatite dike 10-15 feet thick which dips 30-40 degrees into the hill. The quartz-rich tactite below the dike contains 1 to 2% WO3, and a small amount of tactite above the dike has 0.5 to 1% WO3. Associated rocks include diorite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an open cut, a 50 foot adit and a 20 foot adit.
Production information: A few hundred units of WO3 were produced.
