A former lode Au-Pb-Zn mine located in the SE¼ (estimated) sec. 35, T6N, R13E, MDM, 2.2 km (1.4 miles) S of Railroad Flat, at the W end of Redhawk Lake, along the North Fork Calaveras River. Operated during the periods 1934 to 1936, 1939, 1947 & 1955. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in mica schist. The ore body strikes NE and dips SE at a thickness of 0.46 meter. The vein vary from 1 to 1.5 feet thick. The country rock is the Calaveras Group. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 200 foot inclined shaft with levels at 100 and 130 feet, and a 400 foot drift adit. A 40 foot shaft was sunk in 1947.
Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).
Production data: 0.5% Pb was recoverdd from concentrates. Ore shipments ran $136 (period values) in base metal ore and $20 (period values) in free Au, for a total of $156 (period values) per ton.
Analytical data results: The ore averaged $13.50 to $16.50 (period values) in Au.
