A former drift placer Au-PGE (Pt, Os) occurrence located in secs. 23, 24 & 25, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 4 km SW of Mokelumne Hill (town), W of the McSorley Ranch. Operated during 1902 and during the period 1934 to 1935. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au-PGE deposit. The gravel is slightly cemented. The bedrock consists of mineralized slate, which is of little value. The small amount of development completed by December, 1935, showed that the rim gravel contained gold in fine sizes, with considerable black sand and iron sulfides, with minor Os & Pt. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings. A 300 foot vertical shaft and a 550 foot drift N on the E rim were driven. A winze was being sunk to the bottom of the channel. Drifts were run in 1902. Au was produced from the trough of the channel. 13 men were employed. Idle during the period 1903 to 1916. Dewatered and further developed during the period 1934-1935.
