The Australian Stratigraphic Units Database describes the Rayner Complex as: "[e]xtends over 1000km from Enderby Land to Princess Elizabeth Land; is well exposed at Prince Charles Mountains and SW Prydz Bay. High-grade metamorphic rocks, reworked during late Neoproterozoic/Cambrian granulite facies metamorphism accompanied by widespread charnockitic and granitic magmatism at 1000 to 900 Ma."
"Painted Gneiss": Archaean (reworked during Proterozoic orogeny 1100 Ma ago) metapelite interlayered with orthogneisses and charnockites.
Presence of granitic partial melts.
