Köppen climate type:
An obsidian, perlite, U occurrence located in the NE¼NE¼ sec. 9, T23N, R8E, G&SRM, 5.3 km (3.3 miles) NW of Sunset Crater (coordinates of record), on the ENE flank of Sugarloaf of San Francisco Mountain, on National Forest land. Owned by M. McCormick, Arizona (1965). There are 3 pits in sec. 24. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 2,000 meters. NOTE: MRDS file # places this locality in sec. 24, T23N, R7E with coordinates of 35.36197N, 111.60573W (latitude-longitude is for the pit closest to the center of the section).
Mineralization is a perlite deposit with obsidian in a cinder bed. Local rocks include Holocene to middle Pliocene volcanic rocks.
Workings include surface openings.
