Central Maratoto Valley prospect, located north-east of Paeroa township on the southern Coromandel peninsula.

Early porphyry-type quartz veins telescoped by widespread epithermal veins and alteration. The veins is up to 2.5 kilometres long, and averages 3 metres wide, dips steep east and west, and reaches a depth of 100 metres. The veins consist of quartz, calcite, rhodochrosite and siderite gangue, with pyrite, marcasite sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, native gold, acanthite, seleniferous acanthite, Au-Ag bearing hessite, and rare electrum ore mineralisation.

Host rock: andesite flows and dacite breccias of the Waipupu Formation, Kapukapu Andesite, and Maratoto Rhyolite. The Waipupu Formation consists of pyroxene andesitic lava flows, and intercalated volcanic breccia, and crystal lithic tuff. This is flanked to the west by andesitic tuff breccia of the Kapukapu Andesite, with intercalated andesitic tuffs, and thin lava flows. This is overlain and intruded by rhyolitic lava flows and dykes of the Maratoto Rhyolite, forming dome complexes, with periphery pyroclastics.

The prospect is 4.7 kilometres north-west of the Maratoto Mine. Explored 1999 by Delta Gold New Zealand Ltd.

There are three types of veins: 1) early porphyry style dark grey quartz veins with finely disseminated pyrite; 2) main stage epithermal quartz, ankerite and dolomite veins with associated quartz-illite-pyrite alteration veinlets (some with gold, and more commonly base metal sulphides), with numerous cavities lined with comb quartz 3) overprinting late stage epithermal calcite, crossed by siderite veinlets, and ankerite-dolomite veinlets, and kaolinite.
