Commodity: Project 9350 - 01393 alunite resources
Deposit: Pacific gold and uranium inc. In joint venture with noranda exploration inc. Was exploring the main goldfield district in 1980 with 151 drill holes to 100-ft depth which indicated presence of 500,000 tons of ore containing 0.07 oz/ton Au proven reserves. Pacific gold also granted a sublease to another party to reopen the mohawk no. 2 mine which was in initial stages of production in 1980. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept; 3 field observ goldfield consolidated main vein. Quartz and alunite make up the innermost of 3 zones of alteration which flank the ore vein system. Ransome (1909) states that alunite occurs in practically all of the morena rhyolite, in the rhyolite around vindicator mountain, in the dacite and andesite of preble mountain, and elsewhere. He was the first to point out the importance of alunite in the alteredrock, amplified by harvey and vitaliano,(1964),and by ashley and albers (1975).
Development: The goldfield consolidated mines co. Was formed mainly by george wingfield and sen. George nixon by buying up controlling interests in most of the major mines of goldfield in late 1906. The goldfield consolidated mill (100 stamps) began operating in 1908 and continued until jan. 1919, accounting for over half the production of the district. The mill was treating 600 tpd in 1909. The mine was idle from 1920 to 1927 when bradsha W inc. Co. Began treating tailings, under lease, continuing until 1940
Geology: Geol.com: unconfirmed reports suggest .5 million tons of .07 oz/ton Au or more.
