A deposit of ferberite (originally recorded as 'ferbertite') was discovered here in 1911 by John Munro. In 1915 a company was formed, with 5 men employed to work the mine. Three shafts, 3 adits and 2 open cuts were formed during production, which ceased in 1918. The mine was reopened in 1952 by J.M. Dwyer on M.C. 1707, 1708, 1742 and 1743, with a total of 4cwt of of ferberite and scheelite ore being recovered.
Of the mines along the Callawonga Creek area, only the Queen Mary produced any worthwhile ore.
Mined from masses (shoots), disseminations of ferberite were found in discordant NS-trending quartz-tourmaline pegmatite veins 30 cm to 2 m wide, within metasediment of the Tapanappa Formation.
Production from 1915-18 yielded 317 tonne (2.54 tonne metal at 0.8%WO2).
Treated ore was also reported to carry gold, with an average 0.6g/tAu, to a maximum 2.6g/tAu.
