A prospect located about ¼ mile west of the Great Silver Mine, and 600 feet N of the Dewey prospect, at an elevation of 5,060 feet, just east of the Alum Gulch divide, on National Forest land.
Mineralization involves a fault fissure in andesite that dips 70º to 80º SSW. The south, or hanging wall, of the vein is marked by 2 to 8 inches (5 to 20 cm) of chocolate-colored gouge. Slickensides on the wall pitch 15ºE. The ore occurs in lenses or shoots that apparrently pitch westward on the vein. The lenses ar e as a rule about 2½ feet in maximum width, and narrow to 6 inches or less in the distance of 20 feet.
The ore is entirely oxidized material, being a mixture of azurite, malachite, limonite, cuprite, and chrysocolla with crushed and altered andesite, a little quartz, and some potash feldspar.
Workings include a 188 foot long tunnel driven N.64ºW. (paralleling the south, or hanging wall, of the vein in the fault fissure), and a 30 foot deep shaft, plus a 20 foot vertical winze 140 feet into the tunnel.
