Two shallow feldspar prospect pits. Brunswick pegmatite field. Granite Pegmatite. Very radioactive bedrock in the area.

Critical Areas Status:

The Yedlin Locality is a small prospect area recognized by Neal Yedlin as containing good crystals of what was then identified as "samarskite". The locality was described by him in Rocks and Minerals magazine. Because of the article, the locality became known as the Yedlin Prospect. Subsequently, the mineral of interest was re-identified as ishakawaite and it was then that the locality acquired international status for having specimens that are world class size and quality. The locality is an area that is inventoried by the USA Critical Mineral Areas program and designated as a Most Important Site needing protection from development. This habitat is also the only place in Maine where fergusonite-(Y) has been found. The largest xenotime-(Y) crystal from Maine is from this locality. The habitat consists of an area comprising about 1 hectare. The area is also noted as one where the bedrock contains naturally significantly radioactive minerals.

May 11, 2014; the area on the north side of the water filled trench (toward the large water tank and new road) has been cleared for development, but not the primary dump side of the trench (south side). Ishikawaite crystals were found in dumps on both sides of the trench, however.
