A former Au-Hg-S mine located in sec. 31, T35N, R30E, and in sec. 35, T35N, R29E, MDM, 8.7 km (5.4 miles) ENE of Sulphur, on private (patented) land. Owner-Operator was the Pacific Sulphur Inc. (1967). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

Mineralization is a Hg-S deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code 104; USGS model code 25a; Deposit model name: Hot-spring Au-Ag; Mark3 model number 45), hosted in Holocene sandstone. The ore body is 548.64 meters wide and 1,981.2 meters long. Controls for ore emplacement include faults which appear to have channeled hydrothermal solutions. Local alteration is significant since most of the rocks are strongly altered (argillization, opalization, alunitization and silicification). Local rocks include rhyolitic flows and shallow intrusive rocks.

Sulfur occurs as disseminated grains, as preferential replacement of conglomerate matrix, as irregular veins and masses, and as coatings on fracture surfaces. Mercury is present in some of the material, as is silver. In the big pit, all rocks are moderately to strongly altered, but conglomerate clasts are commonly recognizable. Much of the rock contains little or no sulfur. Sulfur is concentrated in 3 or 4 irregular areas up to 20 feet across, where it makes up perhaps one-fifth of the rock. Within these areas some small bodies are quite pure. Most stringers of sulfur are semi-horonzontal, probably reflecting bedding attitude which otherwise is not visible.

Workings include surface openings including an open pit The main pit is 350 feet long in a N10W direction, 100 feet wide and up to 25 feet deep, plus about a dozen additional pits. There was no activity at the time of examination in 1984, but the property was extensively drilled in 1966.

production information: An unknown tonnage of screened sulfur, mostly for agriculture purposes. The average grade mined was said to be 15% to 38% S.

Analytical data results: Sample No. 2704 of the most intensely altered conglomerate, consisting of quartz and anhydrite, contains 0.05% Fe, 0.05% Mg, 20% Ca, 0.1% Ti, 700 ppm Ba, 5 ppm Ni, 500 ppm Sr, and 50 ppm Zr.. Sample No. 2705 of moderately altered conglomerate consisting of quartz and sulfur contains 0.3% Ti, 500 ppm Ba, 5 ppm Ni, and 200 ppm Zr. Sample No. 2706 of altered rock adjacent to the sulfur body, consisting of quartz and cristobalite contains 0.05% Fe, 0.02% Mg, 0.2% Ti, 20 ppm B, 1,500 ppm Ba, 10 ppm Cr, 10 ppm Cu, 5 ppm Ni, and 700 ppm Zr.
