In 1948, Basaltwerk Pauliberg Gesellschaft mbH was founded with the state of Burgenland holding a 50 percent stake. The aim of the foundation was to create jobs and produce gravel and chippings from basalt for road construction. In 1950, Wiener Stuag AG left the company and the state of Burgenland took over their 25% share in the company. The remaining 25% was held by the Viennese company Radebeule from its founding until 2009. In 2009 the company was taken over by Esterhazy Betriebse GmbH from Eisenstadt.

When basalt mining began in the early 1950s, the quarry was not yet connected to the electricity grid and all equipment was diesel-powered. The workforce was 80 to 100 strong, and yet productivity was low. After connecting to the power grid, productivity was gradually increased by purchasing heavy equipment until 1970. In order to be able to compete against competition from gravel works and to be able to produce a wider range of products from railway ballast to basalt sand and flour, a processing plant with automatic loading equipment was built in 1979 and the fine crushing plant was modernized and expanded in the mid-1990s. At the beginning of the 2020s, there were still 2 employees and 14 workers employed in the basalt quarry.
