The town of Pella is situated West from the Aggeneys mining area, and has over the years been prospected extensively for primarily copper-lead-zinc deposits.
Geologically, the area is hosted in the center portion of the Namaqua region of the Namaqua-Natal metamorphic belt and is characterized by medium to high grade metamorphism (Sillimanite is well documented and historically mined in the area).
Much of the quartz mineralization is associated with small scale pegmatites intruded along the foliation in granitic gniesses throughout the area.
The locally termed "Pella mountains" to the North-West of the town are the primary production area for hematite phantomed quartz; chloride included and clear quartz can be found extensively throughout the area.
Alluvial gold was found north of the town.
