A former underground Cu-Au-Ag-Zn-Pb mine located in the SE¼ sec. 17, T.12N., R.2E. (Mayer 7.5 minute topo map), on the Copper Mountain spur at 4,900 feet of altitude (outcrop). Closed in 1919; subsequently reopened and closed again in 1922. Operated 1945-1950. Owned by C.M. Stoddard (1926); and, Eugene Meyer (1945-1950). Claims extend into the NE¼SW¼NE¼ of sec. 18 and the SW¼NW¼SW¼ of sec. 17.
Mineralization is chloritic schist with lenses of quartzite and also, in places, cherty bands and some schistose quartz porphyry. Ore is in lenses and is hosted in the Lower Unit of Spud Mountain Volcanics. Ore control was stratigraphy and igneous activity. Ore concentration was oxidation at near surface. Alteration was chloritization and sericitization.
Area structures include massive sulphide lenses parallel to stratigraphic units. Foliation and transposed bedding in metavolcanic rocks trends N-S to N15W.
Workings include extensive upper workings, a lower tunnel at the 700 level (4,470 feet of altitude), and a 300 foot deep winze below this level. The upper tunnel is at 4,690 feet of altitude. Produced 14,000 tons of ore at 3.82% Cu (1945-1950).
