Mineralizzazione a manganese del Monte Brugiana (giacimento di Mn di Artana; Monte Rocchetta), Versante nord del Monte Brugiana, Carrara, Provincia di Massa-Carrara (Provincia di Massa e Carrara), Toscana, Italia


This Mn mineralisation, hosted in the Liassic marble formation and associated with calcschists levels interbedded in the marble, is located on the northern flank of Monte Brugiana and La Rocchetta to the south-west of Colonnata. Little excavations were locally performed in the past years to dig out Mn minerals, mainly braunite. Samples of an unusually REE-rich piemontite have been found in one of the dumps (Bonazzi et al., 1992).

Description: REE-rich piemontite with total amount of rare earth elements ranging from 2.85 to 8.06 (oxides) wt% (La is the prevaling element). It appears as bended veinleits, about 1 cm thiek, cuttinga quartzite matrix. Associated minerals are braunite, Mn-oxides, titanite, apatite and mica.
