Belfast Granite Quarry
North of town, one of several quarries in the Bushveld Complex that is quarried for gabbronorite used in construction and tombstones, so-called dimension stone and incorrectly referred to commercially as black granite. Narrow bands of white leached rocks less than 15 cm are cutting the norite. In these veins, rare nodular cavities (30-40 cm in diameter) occur in which good microminerals have been found.
