A former underground Cu-Ag-Au-Mo mine located in the SW¼ sec. 35, T5S, R26E and in sec. 2, T6S, R26E (Safford 15 minute topo map), 8.5 miles NE of Safford, on the SW slopes of the Gila Mountains, on private land. Owned by Gila Valley Copper Co. (1905); Federal Mining Co.; and the Gila Valley Copper Co. (1909). Operated by Gila Mountain Copper Co.; San Juan Copper Co.; and the Atlas Copper Co. (1909).

Mineralization is an irregular orebody hosted in San Juan stock (quartz monzonite). Ore control was veins and fractures in Quartz Monzonite Porphyry with some disseminated sulfides. Concentration was supergene enrichment. Alteration was potassic, phyllic, argillic, and propylitic in zones out from the stock.

Area structures include the San Juan shear zone 3000 feet wide, and 9000-10000 feet long, strike N50°-65°E and intersecting shears.

Workings total 152.4 meters in length and 129.54 meters in depth. Developments include 130, 325, and 425 foot deep shafts and 90, 100, and 300 foot long tunnels. A 50 ton per day concentration mill was built on the San Juan claim in 1906 by the Gila Valley Copper Co. which began shipping concentrates to the Old Dominion smelter at Globe in 1906. Late acquisition by the Major Mining Co. (Phelps Dodge, 1992) due to difficulties in dealing with property owners.
