Riverview group #l-9
A group of U-V-Mo-Cu claims and former surface & underground mine located in the NW¼NE¼ sec. 8, T26N, R10E, G&SRM, 15.3 km (9.5 miles) SE of Gray Mountain (town) and 1.2 miles W of the Little Colorado River. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.
Mineralization is an U-V deposit hosted in sandstone and Early Triassic mudstone. includes secondary U & Cu minerals The ore body is elliptically shaped at 27.43 meters wide and 42.67 meters long. The ore body contains metatorbernite and considerable malachite in a 120 foot diameter pipe-like structure. Chinle sediments have dropped into Moenkopi Formation. Ore is in the upper 55 feet of the pipe, mostly along a peripheral shear. Only producer pipe around Cameron. Local alteration of host rock mudstone from reddish-brown to grayish-green and bleaching of host rock sediments. Known ore at the Riverview is limited to a single shear on the periphery of the pipe and favorable beds overlying it. Local rocks include rocks of the Moenkopi Formation.
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 16.76 meters and an overall depth of 4.57 meters and comprised of one 15 foot deep open cut and a 55 foot shaft.
Production was 508 tons of ore @0.38% U3O8 and 0.03% V2O5 (low-V; high-Cu)(1956-1957).
Analysis test results: 3 samples: 1.01-1.77% e U3O8; 1.35-2.48% U3O8.
