Group of mines working a small area of highly mineralised ground on High Pinseat between the Old Gang property and Arkengarthdale.
Major veins worked were Surrender Far North, Wetshaw Head (Surrender North), Surrender North Middle (Labour), Flange and Surrender Great Sun. Minor veins or strings were Royal Exchange, South Middle, Eyle Tail, Jackson's, Commodore and Metcalf's.
Grid reference given is for Old or High Shaft, New or Low Shaft being at NY97390256. Eventually these workings reached the depth of Moulds Horse Level, whose portal was 8960ft (2.73km) away to the east in Arkengarthdale. This meant that Surrender had the greatest vertical working range next to Lownathwaite in the whole district.
The dumps from the two Surrender shafts are amongst the most extensive in the area; output during the 19th century was at least 40,000 tons of lead concentrates.
