Quarry and mill operated for cement materials in Cretaceous limestone about 2 miles south of Midlothian on Ward Road and US highway 67. The location is well-known for Cretaceous-age marine fossils and rather large authigenic pyrite nodules.
The quarry was owned by Texas Industries, Inc. ('TXI') until late 2013, when it was put up for sale and purchased by Martin Marietta Materials, a spin-off of the aerospace company.
