A giant almandine crystal was found in a loose boulder at a beach near Selvik (a misnomer for Solvik ?), north of Gjølanger Mill. The poorly developed crystal measured 100 x 70 x 40 cm and was estimated to weigh about 700kg (Kolderup & Rosenqvist 1950).

It measured 100x70x40cm, and the weight was estimated to be ca. 700kg. It's a rhomb-dodecahedron, but far from perfect, and it's was coated with chlorite and green hornblende. |
