Antimony sulfide was first discovered in 1863. The deposit is a system of stibnite-bearing quartz veins that cut Silurian-age greywacke and slate.
There are 4 main Sb veins: the Hibbard, Prout, Brunswick and Lawrence. A uranium-bearing zone partially envelopes the stibnite ore zone.

This mine produced a small number of native antimony specimens that are considered the finest examples known.

Description: About 2 dozen specimens were recovered from the 1220 level. One specimen in the Tysons' collection has a halo of calcite xls surrounding lustrous Antimony rhombs. The largest plate recovered is in the Seaman Museum in Michigan.
