A former U-V-Mo occurrence/mine located in secs. 27 and 34, T41N, R23E, G&SRM, 0.3 km (0.2 mile) SSE of Yazzi Mesa (summit) (coordinates of record) and 7.4 miles NW of Dinnehotso. Owned by John M. Yazzie & Thomas Clani.
Mineralization is carnotite, montroseite and tyuyamunite in lenticular ore pods in the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation and the De Chelly sandstone. It occurs 7 feet into the Permian De Chelly sandstone. Deposits occur in the bottoms of paleostream channels, usually with carbonaceous debris. local rocks include Permian to Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks.
Production was 1,048 tons of ore @0.47% U3O8; 1.06% V2O5 (1952-1954), by
Clani and Yazzie. Lease #1 of Spencer Uranium Co. came from this property as well, and accounts for 1,510 tons of ore (1954-1957), for a total of 2,558 tons @0.345% U3O8 and 0.796% V2O5.
