Grand Central claim

A former underground Pb-Zn-Ag mine located in sec. 30, T5S, R20E, 1½ miles NE of Aravaipa and 1000 feet SE of the Head Center Mine. First produced 1925. Owned by the Athletic Mining Co. Operated by the Grand Central Mining Co.

Mineralization is hosted in Horquilla Limestone and shale. An associated rock unit is the Copper Creek Granodiorite. An altered zone contains mineralization. Some copper stain evident.

Area structures include block faulting trending NNW. Regional trends: minor Pre-Cretaceous E- and NE-trending folds and major Post-Cretaceous NNW-trending faults.

Workings include an inclined shaft sunk on an altered zone. Production was 3,500,000 pounds of Pb and $20,000 (period values) of Ag (1926-1930). Nothing known of this mine subsequent to 1930.
