This is a small copper mine just west of the Borlase mine. It was worked around 1923/1924 by the Greenburn & Tilberthwaite Mining Co., who employed two miners from Coniston, John and Joseph Hellens after whom the mine and the vein were named. Working by hand the miners drove a level about 30 fathoms and sunk a sump from an openwork on the surface to connect with the level. However the vein was poor and very little ore was raised. A few years later the mine was reworked with a crosscut driven further down the fell but nothing worthwhile was found.
