Marble quarry situated in the Cambrian Stockbridge Marble. Located on Sand Road north of Falls Village in the town of Canaan.
According to Force (2008), the quarry has had numerous owners/operators:
It was leased by Charles B. Maltbie and Almon C. Randall from George F. Cady at some time before 1866.
From 1866 owned by the American Lime Company.
From 1902 owned by the Northeast Lime Company who operated it for several years. These firms used it to make agricultural lime.
U. S. Gypsum bought it in 1926. Until 1972, they produced ground marble used as filler in sheet rock, plaster and stucco.
In 1978 it was reopened by the Falls Village Limestone Company owners Robert Farnham and Joseph Kuch. They teamed with Red Wing Properties Inc. and tried to get permission to reopen the quarry, which had been compelled to halt operations in 1990.
They sold it in 2002 to Troy Sand and Gravel of Clayton Road in North Canaan. As of 2010 it is known as the "Sand Road Mine" operated by Century Aggregates, Inc. of Falls Village.
