The tunnel joins the upper Hüttwinkl valley to the Naßfeld valley and, where it passes through the Siglitz valley, runs roughly parallel to the Siglitz adit. During its construction, several mineralized clefts and the northeastern extensions of the gold-bearing sulphide veins worked by the ancient mines in the Siglitz valley were cut. New finds were made in 2006, when the tunnel was extended.

The Naßfeld tunnel entry lies, according to Strasser (1989) (p. 158) about 1 km NE of the Imhof adit ('Siglitz-Unterbaustollen'). The coordinates (approximate only) are those of this entry.

Not to be confused with the dumps of the power station construction site, Sportgastein (http://www.mindat.org/loc-159262.html).
