Safira pegmatite district, Eastern Brazilian pegmatite province.
Sauer (1982): "The Ribeirão Lava-Pés pegmatite, near Poaiá, produces splendic [sic] garnets, also of a fringe composition between almandine and spessartite [sic]. [...] Presently, only the Poaiá mine is in activity, due to the existence of particularly rare massive blocks of garnets which produce the so-called 'eyes' suitable for fashioning. Sizes are under three carats. Some unusually large 'eyes' have been uncovered which yield up to 15 carats of totally transparent garnets, with colours ranging from yellow to cognac."
[However, the only "Ribeirão Lava-Pés" in existence - according to Google Maps - is a brook flowing through Bragança Paulista in São Paolo state?]
