During the construction of the tunnel, central alpine rocks (micaschists, gneisses, amphibolites), rocks of the Magdalensberg series (tufas, chlorite schists, diabases), as well as siliceous carbonatites of unknown geological origin were cut.

Located in the western Kreuzbergl massif, about 5 km WNW of Klagenfurt.
