Fly Gap Road is a graded gravel road approx. 6 miles in length. The south end starts at the intersection of FM 1960 and FM 2618 in Mason Co., Texas (30 50' 28.89N and 99 03' 30.92W) and north end intersects US Hwy 71 at 30 54' 34.08N and 99 01' 19.32W. The road traverses private range land and cuts numerous small pegmatites. A walk along the barrow ditches can yield smoky quartz crystals, magnetite, ilmenite and microcline cleavage fragments, especially after a rain.
