An underground asbestos mine/occurrence. The asbestos claims are located in secs. 29 & 30, T5N, R18E, along the Salt River, just South of its junction with Sawmill Creek (Sawmill Canyon) and about 2 miles E of the US highway 60-77 bridge, NW San Carlos Indian Reservation. Discovered December, 1921 by John E. Malone.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a linear ore body hosted in the Mescal Limestone. It is a 9 to 12 inch (0.3 meters) serpentine layer that contains several asbestos fiber veins. The zone strikes S70W and dips 12N. It occurs about 6 or 7 feet above the lower diabase sill and about 1 foot below the bottom of the middle meber of the Mescal Limestone.
Workings include 2 adits about 100 feet apart in the outcrop, totalling 25.91 meters in length.
Assay data: ½ - 2 inch, asbestos fibers fairly harsh & weathered. No production record.
