A former U-V occurrence/mine located in sec. 28, T28S, R26E, SLM, on National Forest land and/or Bureau of Land Management administered land (located claim) (0.75 miles (1.21 km) N of highway 46 crossing the Utah-Colorado state line). Discovered in 1953. Owned by Lark Washburn, Colorado (1974); owned by William McCormick (1977); Owned and operated by Geo Energy Res.; owned by Truman Goode (1977). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Part of this mine is in Utah and part is in Colorado. The haulage portal is on Bureau of Land Management administered land, while the mine enters the national forest.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Jurassic mudstone and sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation. Local rocks include Jurassic (2) sedimentary rocks in southeastern Utah.
NOTE: The 2 USGS MRDS files provide discrepant data regarding the orebody(ies):
The orebody is sedimentary lenticular and tabular-irregular in form, strikes N45W and dips 02N. Primary ore control was lithology. The average thickness of unconsolidated materials is 1.5 meters.
OR
The orebody is lenticular, tabular & irregular, strikes E-W, dips 7S at a thickness of 1.83 meters, a width of 18.29 meters and a depth-to-top of 9.14 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included paleochannels.
Local geologic structures include the La Sal Creek Syncline.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 6,098 meters. The workings are very extensive, some are flooded and caved. Mine was not fully examined.
Reserve-resources data are found in Jones, H. (1977).
