A former Au-Ag-Cu-Pyrite occurrence/mine located in the SW¼NE¼SE¼ sec. 12, T22N, R18W, G&SRM, 7 miles S of Chloride, in the foothills of the Cerbat Mountains, about 1 mile NW of the Golden Gate Mine, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. Owned by Emilie Stifel, Missouri (1958). Produced 1880 to 1909. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granite. The ore body strikes N35W and dips 75SW at a width of 1.52 meters (4 feet). The mineralization is associated with a Late Cretaceous porphyry intrusion. Gangue is quartz and altered breccia. Oxidation extends to a depth of 90 feet. Associated rocks include Neoproterozoic granite. Local rocks include Quaternary surficial deposits, undivided.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 76.2 meters and an overall depth of 60.96 meters and comprised of a 200 foot deep shaft and about 200 feet of drifts and some stoping near the surface.
Production statistics: Year: 1909 (ore average) grade ^13.42 ounces (379 grams) Au/ metric ton. Concentrates averaged 13.42 ounces Au and 40 ounces Ag/ton.
