The Tuscarora District is a well known classic locality for Nevada fossil wood. It is renowned for producing specimens displaying a unique "herringbone" pattern in colors of red, white and brown. This locality was presumed to be worked out since the early 1970's, but in the fall of 2009 a 3 1/2 ft. long fossil wood log was discovered in a previous excavation.
