A former Cu-Au-Pb-Ag-Zn-S (pyrite) occurrence/mine located in the N½ sec. 4, T22N, R17W, G&SRM, at Stockton, 3 miles NE of Cerbat, about 1.3 miles N of Silver Mountain, on Bureau of Land Management administered land and/or private land. The property consists of 6 adjacent claims. Formerly a part of a group of mines known as the Stockton Hill Mines operated by Arizona Butte Mines Company. Other previous owners and operators include the Arizona-Mexican Mining and Smelting Company (1909); Comstock Silver; Frank Hodge; H.M. Crowther; and the Needles Mining and Smelting Company. Owned by U.S. Smelting Refining and Mining, Utah (1953) and by the Cerbat Mining and Milling Company (1962-....). Operated by Reed and Reed (1952) & by George Reed, Inc., Arizona (1953). Produced during the period 1901 to 1952. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a polymetallic deposit hosted in schist, gneiss & granite. The ore body strikes N65W and dips 80NE at a width of 4.57 meters (15 feet) (60 - 80 feet diameter). Mineralization is associated with a Lower Cretaceous porphyry intrusion. Associated rocks include Neoproterozoic granite. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic granitic rocks.
Regional geologic structures include Precambrian schistosity N30E, Lower Cretaceous veins, fissures, and dikes NW to NNW. Local structures include schistosity trending N30E, NW.
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 762 meters and an overall depth of 76.2 meters. A 1,600 foot adit and drift are connected to a 250 foot deep winze. Workings are the Banner shaft and the Infallible tunnel. An adit crosscut was put in by Reed Brothers and connects the Banner Mine to the Fountainhead Mine.
